A Few More Sites On Crochet Needle
This product is a great solution to an annoying and expensive problem. I started knitting 9 months ago and I prefer using circular for everything because why but straight needles you can only use for half your projects? Circulars work for scarves and sweaters and hats. The only problem with Circulars is that I’ve ended up spending something like $80 on needles! And then I found this product, which have every needle size I could want -one set of each, which is alright unless I’m doing multiple projects, which I do- and lengths of plastic in the traditional varying lengths. Now that I’ve done two projects with this set I’ve got a few compliments and one HUGE complaint.
Pros:
* The metal needles make the stitches move very smoothly along
* The points are the right pointiness to make picking the stitches up very easy
* the kit comes with a replacement form so if I wanted I can buy more needles and wires to make multiple projects easier.
* If you have to change needle sizes for say, a sweater or boarder, you just smooth all the stitches down, unscrew the needles and put the new size on! Very efficient and convenient.
Con:
* I have yet to figure out how to get the needle points and the wire to not come unscrewed while I’m working! This is by far the most annoying, evil thing that has ever happened to me while knitting! I’ve had to consistently stop knitting to retighten every round or so and I’ve actually dropped stitches before.
Help answer the question about Crochet Needle
Is the size of a crochet hook determined by the length of the needle or the width of the hook?
I need a size J-10 crochet hook, I was previously using a size 4 but it was too small. What is a size Crochet Needle J-10 equivalent to? I have bulky yarn, a size 5, so when I was trying to crochet using a size 4 needle it wasn't working so well. The chain was coming out very tight where I couldn't use the loops. It's easier to change the hook rather than the yarn cuz I have a lot of yarn, but is the needle size based on the width of the hook? Will I be able to use my yarn with a size J-10 needle?

Afghan+Crochet+Patterns Helpful Fact
I knew nothing about Tunisian crochet. This book helped me to understand how it worked. The illustrations and directions were top notch and clearly showed me how to do the stitches. After making a sample piece, just to get the hang of it, I realized that it did indeed, look like knitting, BUT this kind of crocheting makes an extremely thick finished product. I got to thinking about the implications of this as my ball of yarn disappeared at an astounding rate. This way of crocheting really eats up yarn!
More patterns playing to the strength of Tunisian crochet would have strengthened the book. The patterns are for various clothing items (most of which I wasn’t too excited about), but there was not one purse in there. Tunisian crochet would make a wonderfully sturdy handbag or even a nice, thick winter hat. I used it for the strap of a crocheted purse that I had almost completed. No worry about a too-stretchy strap now!
I give the book 3 stars weighing in the look of the book (beautiful), ease of learning how to do the stitch (very easy with great illustrations), types of patterns (lacking, uninspiring), and unfortunately, my new understanding of the yarn eater that this type of crochet is (think the Cookie Monster here). Yes, it looks like knitting, but definitely doesn’t have the draping, feel, or stretch of knitting. Lovely book though!
